John McCabe's Web Guides: Better Family Vacation Photos
October 29, 2006Do your family vacation photos look like the ones you see in museums? You know, those old tintypes with Father seated stiffly upright with bowler hat balanced on his knee, Mother standing at attention on his right with one hand on his shoulder while both stared straight at the camera. Maybe your vacation scrapbooks have the same theme running through all of them. Mom standing next to a tree and smiling. Junior standing next to a giant ball of string and smiling. Grandma standing next to a sign and smiling...
It doesn't have to be that way.
While these short tips won't magically transform you into Nigel Barker, they will help you take vacation photos your family and friends will really want to see.

John McCabe's Web Guides: Travel Around Lisbon And Portugal
October 12, 2006Travel Around Lisbon And Portugal And Exploring Its Beauty
by Rob Carlton
Lisbon, Portugal and its history have been written about on so many pages, its monuments have been described in so many different ways that it gives you the feeling that time has never passed. Not only because its architecture has been kept intact even though it was terribly hit by an earthquake in 1755, but also because the people themselves are patient and not in a hurry.
On flying into the airport and getting comfortably installed in your hotel, pull out your easy readable map and begin at the Plaza do Comercio, on the River Tagus. From there, you can go towards the water and the port or into the city to visit the austere church and the history opening up before your eyes. So now it is about time that someone gave curious knowledge seekers a curious view of Lisbon.

A cruise offers the chance to enter a totally different world and that’s appealing to all ages. So bring the whole family along. Most cruise lines have special children’s rates and provide lots of entertainment specifically aimed at youth.
Many cruises have trained personnel whose sole job is to supervise the wide variety of childrens’ programs. One example is Princess Cruises’ Love Boat Kids program. It includes complete Youth and Teen Centers and a toddler's play area and theatre. The kids can enjoy movies, games, arts & crafts, computers and more.
John McCabe's Web Guides: Shore Dives in Grand Cayman
October 12, 2006Eden Rocks Shore Dives in Grand Cayman
by Clint Leung
When we took a cruise of the Western Caribbean, it included Grand Cayman as a port. We were able to scuba dive one of the shore dives there. There are actually two shore dives off the downtown area of Georgetown which were recommended to us. For cruiseship passengers, it is fairly easy to locate. As soon as the tender boats arrive at the pier, we walked to the right and less than 5 minutes, we arrived at Eden Rocks Dive Centre. Don't be fooled by a new competitor they have just before it. Eden Rocks Dive Centre is closer to the dive sites than their new competitor.
John McCabe's Web Guides: How To Get Certified In Scuba Diving
October 12, 2006How To Get Certified In Scuba Diving
by Clint Leung
The first two steps in getting certified in scuba diving are to make sure that you are a reasonably proficient swimmer and you get medical clearance from your doctor to take up the sport. As for the swimming, you don't have to master every type of stroke. Scuba certification only requires that you are able to swim about 200 yards using any stroke you want and to be able to float or tread on water for about 10 minutes. If you are in good general health and are comfortable in the water, then you should be able to scuba dive without any problems.
There are about 1,900 professional scuba dive centers in North America alone and your local ones should definitely be checked out. Most will run basic certification programs on a regular basis. These centers or shops should be listed in the yellow pages and you can also check with websites of some of the major scuba diving certification agencies such as PADI or NAUI as they will also have listings. Sometimes scuba diving courses are offered at universities too.

John McCabe's Web Guides: Florida Fishing Report
October 12, 2006Plenty of Offshore Fishing Choices in September
By Capt. Dave Pinkham
People are always asking me which is the best month for fishing out on the gulf. This is a tough question to answer as there can be lots of variables with a wide variety of fish to catch with each different season. My answer would have to be September is as good a bet as any. There are plenty of options such as bottom fishing for groupers, or fishing live baits at the surface for mahi or sailfish
Spanish mackerel and little tunny are plentiful right now offshore. Both of these species have been actively feeding on schools of tiny baits pushed up to the surface. Small silver jigs cast toward feeding fish is the quickest way to get hooked up.
John McCabe's Web Guides: Trailer Boating: Boat Ramp Basics
October 12, 2006Are You a Boat Ramp Bozo?
The weekend is finally here. You're all loaded up (well, the car is loaded, you're not) and it's time to head for the lake. You get to the ramp and take your place in line. When your turn comes, you back and fill until the trailer is absolutely straight on the ramp. You back up to the water's edge, untie the cover and start transferring fishing and ski gear plus several coolers to the boat. You back into the water and launch the boat, then pull out to park while your wife and kids hold the boat. You come strolling back, jump in the boat and take off. You're happy - on the water in only 45 minutes.
Then your wife tells you that unless you find another lake to go to, she's staying home. While you were parking the car and boat trailer, all sorts of people hollered at her and the kids. They were really upset and made the kids cry. And the language they used!
John McCabe's Web Guides: Barcelona Spain
October 12, 2006Barcelona Spain - So Much Fun In One Day
The city of Barcelona, Spain, as all the Iberian Peninsula, has been clearly marked by its long history which dates to the Roman times. But what really left a deep impression and can still be fully appreciated today is what the Arabs left behind. Not only can you awe at the lovely cathedrals, temples and other buildings but you can feel it in the powerful, brave character of the people in Catalunya. The cities of Lleida, Girona, Tarragona and Barcelona make up the region called Catalunya and with it an extensive shoreline which starts at the French border and goes mid-way down the Mediterranean until the Community of Valencia.
